After awarding the rosette, we request that the guild/group send a slide or
photograph of the winning quilt along with information about it and its

in The Canadian Quilter and or posted on our website. This provides CQA/ACC
with the opportunity to showcase the talents of quilters from across the
country.
After years of cross-stitch, embroidery, needlepoint, and crocheting, Diana
Barlow was ready for something new! Quilting was it. She used to laugh at the
expression, “Quilting is addictive”, but now, after three years of quilting she
completely agrees. When, on November 24-26, 2006, the York Heritage Quilters’
Guild held A Celebration of Quilts IX, her quilt, Cheryl’s Garden (62"square)
won the viewer’s choice award. Diana Barlow, of Toronto, used Mary Sorensen’s
Pattern # 24 as a jumping off point. Then she added the bird motifs and broderie
perse butterflies. The entire quilt is echo quilted by Linda Hoiko.

Heather MacDonald-Sorochan of Coalhurst, AB, says, “I love the light of the
summer evening when the prairie colours are so vibrant and alive. The
wildflowers are their own rainbow.” And with those thoughts, she created Priaire
Light, a 60"x 76", which won viewer’s choice at the Festival of Quilts VII—Under
a Prairie Sky, sponsored by the Lethbridge Centennial Quilters Guild, and
exhibited from September 23, 2006 to January 7, 2007. The quilt is an original
design and is machine pieced, hand appliquéd and hand quilted. Several of the
fabrics are hand-dyed by Carol Schuld.

Pat DeSchover of Lloydminster, SK, has been spending many hours hand quilting
with her mother. She believes that it has surprised her mother that she was able
to stick with this project until completion. Her quilt, Family Heirloom, 80"x
90", took three months to hand quilt. But it was worth it, Pat; it was
appreciated by the viewer’s of 2006 Quilt Show sponsored by the Lloydminster Log
Cabin Quilters Guild, and consequently won the CQA/ACC rosette. The quilt
pattern was published in the Oct/Nov 98 issue of Quiltmaker Magazine. Pat is a
charter member of the Guild which was formed in 1989.
