Award Criteria and Guidelines for Nominations
The following are the criteria for the Teacher of the Year (T.O.Y.) Award. The nomination form must be completed and sent with a short essay covering these points. All nominations are judged solely on the basis of the submitted material. Therefore, it is crucial that nominations contain sufficient detail and examples to allow the committee to make an informed decision.
- The nominee must be a Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status for at least three years. The nominee must also be a member of the Canadian Quilters’ Association/Association canadienne de la courtepointe (CQA/ACC) in good standing for at least two years prior to being nominated for this award. The nominator must be a member in good standing of CQA/ACC. The nomination should be accompanied by at least two references.
- The nominee must have displayed a technical mastery of an aspect of the art of quilting.
- The nominee should be a person who stimulates respect for the needle person and must have exemplified qualities that have inspired others to become involved in the craft.
- The nominee must be actively teaching quilting.
- The nomination deadline is February 28 of each year. A call for nominations will appear in the autumn and winter issues of The Canadian Quilter.
- The T.O.Y. Award Committee is chaired by the First Vice President, a Board member, and a member-at-large.
- The recipient is announced at the Annual General Meeting and is profiled in the Autumn issue of the Canadian Quilter.
- All nomination packages become the property of CQA/ACC and will not be returned to the nominator.
