Introducing Nancy Trowbridge, Teacher of the Year 2004

On May 18, 2004, after a wonderful introduction by nominator Georgeann Welsh, it was my pleasure to announce, together with Georgeann, that this year’s Teacher of the Year Award was awarded to Nancy Trowbridge of Essex, Ontario.

Nancy has been teaching quilting for 10 years and actively involved in her quilting community, both locally and provincially. Georgeann wrote: “They say … to teach IS to touch a life! Nancy has touched every person she has met and left a lasting impression.”

Nancy responded in her acceptance speech: “Thank you. I’m overwhelmed by this honour.

I would like to begin by thanking the Teacher of the Year Committee, headed by Jodi-Marie, for finding me worthy of this award. It truly justifies my efforts to share my great passion for quiltmaking with others.

I would also like to thank the CQA/ACC for this award and for its encouragement and dedication, through its Board of Directors, to the preservation and advancement of the art of quiltmaking in our country.”

“To all of my students, several of whom have become very near and dear friends, and who are here with me today, I owe a great deal. A teacher one cannot be, without willing students and a great support staff. Thank you all for sharing a part of my path.”

Congratulations Nancy!

Nancy’s acceptance speech and Georgeann’s introduction can be seen in their entirety in the Autumn Issue of The Canadian Quilter.
