The Lyme Dis-Ease Series by Susan Jaenen-Griffin

Moosomin, Saskatchewan

Date & Time

Saturday April 8, 2017
Saturday April 8, 2017 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

This art show will feature over 40 fibre pieces that depict the artist’s journey with Lyme Disease. The exhibit is to bring awareness to the role that art plays in the healing process of illness. Prior to being incapacitated with Lyme Disease Susan Jaenen-Griffin had enjoyed quilting and had the honour of having five of her quilts juried into International Quilt Festivals but the effect of Lyme on her body made it impossible for her to quilt. She needed to relearn many everyday functions before she could begin to focus on relearning all the quilting techniques. She credits her desire to return to art with giving her the determination to carry on. She began by making small quilts. The inspiration for the quilts in that series came from her being asked several times what she had used to treat the Lyme. Her response was “Everything from Arsenic to Zinc and Acupuncture to Yoga” and she created a quilt for every letter of the alphabet using that as her theme. Other art quilts and pieces followed as her recovery continues. There is no charge for this event as the intent is to illustrate the value of creating art in the healing process.
