By Jodi-Marie Horne Past President The doors to the National Juried Show were opened to our members and guests following the Official Opening Ceremony and Reception on the evening of May 25th. It was my pleasure to announce the awards with the assistance of Carole McCarville, our new President who presented the awards to those in attendance. The NJS was held at the Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, ON from May 25th to 28th. The 84 pieces juried into this show were all spectacular. In late February, the Jury Coordinator, Adaire Schlatter met with the 3 jurors; Lily Lam, Sharon Rember and Louise G. de Tonnancour to make the selections to be shown at this years’ show. In May, these juried entries arrived in Waterloo and under the guidance of the local NJS Coordinator, Kathleen Bissett, our three judges completed the task of selecting this years award winning entries. Dolores Bell was unable to attend and Nancy Trowbridge, the 2004 Teacher of the Year award winner was able to join fellow past Teacher of the Year recipients Dianne Jansson and Dianne Sutton in the judging. Unlike previous years, all three judges worked together in making their decisions, a process, which worked very well for all. A team of dedicated volunteers, led by Kathleen Bissett, hung an outstanding show. Congratulations to all of the participants whose pieces were selected to hang in this show and to all of the award winners. The colour catalogue, included with the Autumn issue of The Canadian Quilter includes all of the entries. The catalogue also lists the sponsors for each award and we thank our sponsors for their continued support of this event and of CQA/ACC. We also wish to extend a special thank-you to all who were involved in this years’ National Juried Show, from our jurors to the local volunteers who assisted during the judging and hanging process. The Board of Directors also wishes to thank the Waterloo County & Area Quilt Festival directors for the invitation extended 2 years ago to hold our event “Quilt ON 2005” in conjunction with the Festival and for the hospitality shown to our members and guests during our week in Waterloo. At this time I would like to extend an invitation to our members to join us in May 2006 in Ottawa for the 18th National Juried Show and Quilt Canada 2006 to celebrate our 25th year as an association.
