2011 National Juried Show
The 23 National Juried Show
By Johanna Alford, President
The 2011 National Juried Show was exhibited at the University of Western Ontario at London Hall in London, Ontario in conjunction with Quilt Ontario, from May 25 - May 29, 2011. Ninety-four outstanding quilts were juried into the show. In February, Jury Coordinator Betty Bailey a CQA/ACC Certified Judge met with three jurors, Barbara Law, Valerie Lange and Dianne Sutton to select the best of the best entries. The juried entries arrived in May at the home of the NJS Coordinator, Diane Carson who was responsible for receiving, organizing and arranging space to exhibit this premier show. The three judges Lily Lam, CQA/ACC Certified Judge, Karen Henry CQA/ACC Apprentice Judge and Hilary Rice, CQA/ACC Apprentice Judge completed the task of choosing this year's award winners.
The Awards Presentation was held on May 25, 2011 at 7:30 and it was again my pleasure to present the awards with the assistance of Gayle Szmurlo. It was truly an exciting experience to see the delight and wonder on the faces of the winners.
Congratulation to all of the participants not only the ones selected but to all those who entered. Special congratulations go to the award winners. This year we provided a colour guide and a DVD of the entire National Juried Show. We also thank our sponsors and guilds who made the generous awards possible. We would like to give a special thank you if you are a member of the guild or if you know someone in the corporate sponsors' offices. Their names are in the back of the NJS Guide which will also be included in the fall issue of The Canadian Quilter.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to give a special thank-you to all involved in this years' National Juried Show.
Now I would like to invite you to our next show to be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia (my home town) and celebrate the 24 NJS and "Seams like home" from May 30 to June 2, 2012.
