Pauline Caron Cataford
Pointes et cercles (Points and Circles)

Pauline chose this pattern because it represented a challenge - calling for more colors that she normally uses in her quilts. She made it for the sheer pleasure of doing so. The quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted. It also won our Guild's Viewers' Choice award in its category and represents Pauline's 13th and 14th Rosette wins.

Dawn Hunt
Reminiscence

Dawn fell in love with this Block Of the Month pattern by Canadian designer, Lydia Quigley at The Running Stitch in 2000. After appliquéing one proto-type block by machine she returned to the relaxing needle-turn method for the quilt. The first block was started on a business trip by train in late September 2001, many delightful noon-hours at work followed working on the blocks, element by element. The quilt was sandwiched, ready for hand-quilting five years ago, but due to an all consuming Baltimore Album journey Dawn decided it needed an intervention by machine quilter extraordinaire, Grace Whiting, or it would have languished as a UFO for even longer.

This quilt also was first in its category and was overall Section gold medalist at the 2010 Calgary Stampede and Exhibition.

Needle-turn hand appliqué, machine piecing, long arm machine quilting.

Penelope Player
Nine Patch Minuet

For two years our monthly quilting group, Quilt Talk, exchanged 3.5” nine-patch blocks. The intention was that we would surprise each other a year later with the quilts that each had made. Each quilt being a well-guarded secret project, of course, and hopefully each one different.

Surprise! It only took me about nine years and it is definitely different. Throughout the quilt are scattered blocks signed by the Quilt Talk ladies.

The quilt has been taken to a delightful new level by the beautiful machine quilting of Always in Stitches, Souris, PEI.
